This is one is of Hamanishi's early 'Division Series'. It is a precursor to his later division works which are more minimal. Here he uses the twine to define the shape of the branches and to create dynamic tension between them. The total image created is one where he carves up the space, defining it by means of the branches and the ropes and then almost questions its veracity by adding another dimension in the central blue 'window'. These are quite mysterious and esoteric works.
